10th Ave Partial Closure
The long term plan is to close all, or portions, of 10th Ave SW between Coach Hill Rd (69th St SW) and West Grove Rise SW (approximately 76th St SW alignment) when access to 10th Ave SW is no longer required by existing acreage owners, and to reclaim and rehabilitate the roadway into green space and a regional pathway. This, along with Municipal Reserve, i.e. park space on both the north and south sides of 10th Ave SW, will create material contiguous park space that can be productively used by community residents. Municipal Reserve on the north and south side of 10th Ave SW east of 76th Ave SW already exists as a result of actions taken by Council in a series of ASP amendments and Bylaw approvals over the last several years. City Council passed motions in 2009 and 2010 to facilitate the closure of sections of this roadway as/when they are no longer needed.
The first section of 10th Ave SW proposed to be closed is that portion west of 73rd St SW abutting the Bri-Mor West Grove development and as depicted in Partial Closure which is provided in the application for closure under File LOC2010-0090. Reclamation and rehabilitation plans are being developed for possible implementation in the Summer of 2011 should this Application be approved.
Update: The application was approved by Calgary Planning Commission in May 2011 and by City Council in a public hearing on July 4, 2011. It is hoped reclamation and rehabilitation will commence before the end of the 2011 construction season.
