WinSport Master Plan 2011
WinSport Canada, as part of their Land Use Application LOC2010-0004 circulated for comments in Jan 2010, has been working with the City this past year to fine tune their proposals to re-develop and re-zone their lands adjacent to Highway #1. That proposal, WinSport Master Plan Jan 2011, was the subject of an Open House on February 22nd at Canada Olympic Park. The Master Plan shown at the Open House varied only slightly from the version posted here.
The last Master Plan, which resulted in the approval of an Area Structure Plan in June 2005 requires adjustments to take into consideration the most recent developments such as the Athletic & Ice Complex, Hockey Canada’s move to COP, and the move of the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame to COP in 2011. Further, the opportunity now exists to monetize underutilized lands with retail, commercial and potentially residential and employment development to provide funds for more ambitious actively managed recreation and sports programs for the benefit of athletes and the residents of Calgary. The proposal includes the dedication of Municipal and Environment Reserve to the City of Calgary to incorporate into the proposed Paskapoo Slopes Natural Environment Park.
The application was approved, with changes, by the Calgary Planning Commission on Sept 15th, 2011. An Open House was held in October and a Public Hearing with City Council has been re-scheduled for December 5 2011.
