WSCR Community Hub & Garden

THE WEST SPRINGS COUGAR RIDGE (WSCR) COMMUNITY GARDEN & HUB was brought to life in 2018 because of the expressed desire by the residents of WSCR for a welcoming space where fellowship and community would be cultivated through the shared experience of gardening and the offer of a serene setting for our neighbours and residents to enjoy. Outdoor programs and gatherings were envisioned for the patios to bring unique offerings to our community.

OUR PURPOSE is through gardening, to build community, to enhance our environment, to educate and to nourish our bodies and spirits.  Our community garden is based on friendship, inclusion, cooperation, and enjoyment. We will respect each other and the environment. Our gardens will facilitate the sharing of knowledge between new and experienced gardeners.

WE ARE A RESOURCE  for other community gardens, we host Hallowe’en, Christmas and Easter children’s activities, outdoor programs, seed, and plant exchanges and mentoring for beginner gardeners. We have garden beds designed for children, for those who with mobility challenges and philanthropic beds.

GROW-A-BED.  “Food connects us as a community and builds each other up in times of need” (Calgary Food Bank). Over our three years we have grown, harvested, and donated over 170 kg of food to the Calgary Food Bank.

A Place of Serenity

A bench is a wonderful way to memorialize or honour a loved one, or mark a special day or event like an anniversary, new baby, graduation, or special birthday. Our garden has four benches which can be memorialized. Each bench offers a 3” x 10” bronze plaque where your message (max. 150 characters) is inscribed. The bench, plaque and ongoing maintenance of the bench is a donation of $2500 to the Community Garden & The Parks Foundation of Calgary.  Several individuals may contribute to a single bench.

Tax Receipts
Individual tax receipts will be issued by Parks Foundation Calgary for all online donations and donations by cheque that exceed $100.

If you would like more information about the program, please email communitygarden@wscr.ca
