WSCRCA Programs and Community Updates in Response to COVID-19

We at the West Springs/Cougar Ridge Community Association (WSCRCA) hope that you and your families are all keeping safe and healthy in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic we are all facing.

We continue to monitor this dynamic situation and its impact to our community and the association’s programs.

Please see below for some updates regarding our programs, events, upcoming meetings, as well as helpful links. We will also continue to update you as more information becomes available.

  • WSCRCA Soccer League – May 2-June 22:
    • We are closely monitoring the recommendations from the province of Alberta, as well as Soccer Canada
    • We are also continuing to plan to start on our scheduled date, as well as considering a delayed season.
    • As we near the date, we are also seeing increased, stringent public health guidelines, recommendations and mandates, all of which are in the best interest of the community and are crucial to combat the spread of COVID-19.
    • For now, we are announcing the postponement of our U10 player evaluations and our age group coaches’ clinics. The start of the U10 South West League (SWL) is also being closely monitored.
    • We are also extending the March 31st cancellation deadline
      • This will allow you to cancel and refund your registration at anytime.
      • We want our members to know that we are there for them and we will continue to always treat everyone fairly.
    • **You can withdraw your registration, for a full refund, at anytime, by modifying your registration in the Member Portal found at www.wscr.ca. Please view the how-to reference guide found here.
    • For any questions, please email soccer@wscr.ca.
  • Monthly Board Meetings and 2020 AGM:
    • Monthly Board Meetings: Apr 14th and May 12th 7:00pm-9:00pm, as well as the AGM on June 9th
    • We have acquired a video conferencing account which will be used to conduct our upcoming board meetings.

    • Please feel free to try it ahead of time – note that you do not need to install an app on your PC as you can run it from the web page, but you need an app for your mobile devices.
  • Community Recycling Event – May 31:
    • In conjunction with the City of Calgary, we have made the decision to cancel the 2020 community recycling event.
    • Here is some helpful information if you have items that you are still looking to donate:
      • Cerebral Palsy Alberta: Their closest Attended Donation Station is at Signal Hill, in the Lowe’s parking lot.  During the COVID-19 outbreak their hours are Saturday and Sunday from 11am-3pm. There are also donation bins at that location which are serviced daily. If someone requires a home pick up they can call CP Alberta at 403-219-3605.
      • Women In Need Society: They are accepting drop-offs at their Donation Center (7007 – 54 St SE). Their thrift stores are still open if anyone wants to shop there as well.
      • Calgary Food Bank: you can continue to make donations to the Calgary Food Bank – please visit their website for more information.
      • Shanked Computer Recycling Inc. (SCRI) collects electronic waste in Calgary, Red Deer, and Edmonton. Their Drive-Through Collection Site in the Currie Barracks is open 10 am to 4 pm, 7 days a week. They also accept donations for the Calgary Food Bank, as well for Cerebral Palsy Alberta.
  • Power Skate Program – July 18-Aug 22:
    • The registration for this event has been delayed
    • Please watch your emails and our website at www.wscr.ca for updates
    • For any questions, please email skating@wscr.ca
  • Community Garden
    • The get together to kick off the gardening season will be announced as we near the May long weekend and more information becomes available
    • As this is an outdoor event and social distancing is possible, it may not be greatly impacted, however protocols for number of attendees at any given time, as well as the use and sharing of tools will be developed beforehand
    • Please watch your emails and our website at www.wscr.ca for updates
    • For any questions, please email communitygarden@wscr.ca

The health, safety and well being of our community is the top priority for the WSCRCA. We will do our best to continue keeping you informed during these dynamic and trying times.
