WSCRCA Soccer League Cancelled for 2020

After careful analysis and consideration, the WSCRCA has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 outdoor soccer season in its entirety. We have been monitoring all levels of government recommendations concerning COVID-19 and have considered a number of contingency options.

Our decision to cancel the 2020 season in its entirely became definite with the City of Calgary’s announcement on April 3rd, that all field permits and gatherings be banned until June 30th.

The safety of our community is of paramount importance to us, and it is important that we follow all expert recommendations at this time.

REFUNDS:

Your refund for the soccer league is easily obtainable by following the instructions found here.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our local Tim Horton’s locations for sponsoring our entire 500 child soccer program. They have been fantastic sponsors. We would also like to thank all the parents who signed up for various volunteer positions in the league this year. Parent volunteers is how we keep prices so low and we can’t do it without you!

Don’t hesitate to contact us at soccer@wscr.ca if you wish to get more involved volunteering with our soccer program (no soccer skills required). It’s a great way to give back to your community for just a few hours a month.

KEEPING ACTIVE:

WSCRCA works with West Hills United (WHU) to help with our coaching clinics and player technical training. They continue to provide great resources even when we are not playing soccer. The following was provided by WHU:

Since we can’t practice as a group, we can practice individually.

We have material for you to do this, whether you are a beginner with no soccer experience, or an experienced player. You will find several videos in this link.

We encourage doing these activities for an hour, once or twice per day. These exercises are planned to be done in small spaces such as the garage, basement, driveway, patio (whenever snow lets us), or in a room prepared for this.

WHAT’S NEXT?:

We will begin planning for next year’s soccer season in a few months, so if you are interested in helping out, please contact us at soccer@wscr.ca.

We thank everyone for your patience and understanding as we have been working in the background to plan out the best approach.

Please continue to stay home and stay safe everyone!

Thank you,

Chris Tattrie (WSCRCA Soccer League Coordinator)

Steve Berman (WSCRCA Soccer League Support)
